We are so fortunate to have a dedicated case manager through Intown Care's pilot program in EAV. As a reminder to all, Michael has provided a little clarification on how and when he is available.

A note from EAV's Intown Cares Case Manager, Michael Nolan:

"My actual working hours flex some, but as a rule I am available between 7am and 6pm Monday through Friday.

This is a general breakdown of my standard work week:

Mondays: Client appointments, admin work, street outreach

Tuesdays: 9a-12p open office hours, street outreach in the afternoon

Wednesdays: 10a-12p Mercy Care clinic in my office

Thursdays: Client appointments, admin work, street outreach

    Fridays: 9a-12p open office hours

If you want to see me or refer someone to come see me at my office (488 Moreland Ave SE), Tuesday and Friday mornings are when that is most easily able to happen. If you would like to make an appointment to talk, you can call or text 943-213-7510 anytime 24/7. If I am not immediately available when you call or text, it is because I am working with someone. Voicemails and texts are responded to within 48 business hours (if a response is required), but that doesn't mean I am not already working on the situation.

I don't take referrals or discuss work via social media because it is important for me to be able to keep solid records and that is impossible when communication is happening all over the place. If you would like my email address to communicate that way, send a text and I'll be happy to provide it."

See more about this program in the recent AJC article HERE.

    Excerpt:

"The enhanced support for unhoused residents in East Atlanta is part of a pilot program through Intown Cares, a local nonprofit organization, that aims to target homelessness through a dedicated case manager.

Counselor Michael Nolan spends 40 hours a week on the ground making connections with unhoused residents and helping them get a roof over their heads."

This year’s East Atlanta Strut will be Saturday, Sept. 28, from noon until 6 p.m. The attached map shows this year’s proposed footprint, which includes street closures similar to pre-Covid Struts.

The parade will go down Glenwood Avenue from Patterson to Moreland starting at noon. After that, much of Flat Shoals and Glenwood in the business district will remain closed until 6 p.m. There will be activities in the street, and a limited number of booths for sponsors. Vendor markets will not be located on Glenwood or Flat Shoals. The Strut wants your thoughts on this plan. Email info@eastatlantastrut.com Thanks.

Make the Right Call - ATL 311 Day

On 311 Day (March 11), the City of Atlanta launched its Make the Right Call Campaign. The purpose of the campaign was to emphasize the responsible use of calling 911 versus utilizing 311.

Some of the most common non-emergency calls to 911 include issues involving landlord-tenant disputes, barking dogs, noise complaints, illegally parked cars and lost and found property. While these concerns are important, the City encourages residents to recognize that 911 should be strictly reserved for genuine emergencies, involving immediate threats to health, safety, property, house fires, vehicle accidents or ongoing criminal activities.

By making the right call, our E911 system is able to address true emergencies and create a safer Atlanta for residents and visitors.

Georgia Works is keeping EAV clean! Thanks to joint efforts between EACA/EABA and District 5, this project is underway and will continue as long as funds can be secured.

Update from Steve of GA Works:

"Our efforts produced 3 trash bags and one scrap tire removed for recycling. Heavy focus on sweeping and picking up cigarette butts. Glass sweeping in lots performed. Portland Ave trash cleaned from Joseph Ave to Brownwood Ave. EAV Farmers Market lot required attention."

What is Georgia Works? A program with the goal of ending homelessness, criminal recidivism, and dependency through programs aimed at personal development in good habits, work ethic and character. The ultimate goal is self sufficiency. Participants are provided shelter and transitional work as they renounce dependency and remain drug and alcohol free.

Next time you spot them cleaning up EAV, give them a shout of encouragement!

This effort would not be possible without donations from District 5, EABA, East Atlanta Santa and community members. Please consider a donation to help support this program as we continue to work towards the ultimate goal of year-round funded clean-ups.  READ MORE + DONATE
